Two teachers acquitted in sex abuse case

The Mahila Court in Chengalpattu acquitted two school teachers whowere accused of sexually assaulting and harassing the girl students in their school.

The case of prosecution was that, between 2012 and 2013, the accused — G. Nagaraj and G. Pugazhendhi — working as chemistry and physics teachers in the Government Girls HSS, Chengalpattu sexually harassed girl students. Eight girls had complained of such harassment.

Both the accused were charged for offences under the IPC provisions and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

The complaint said that the children were sexually exploited by the teachers by holding their marks to ransom. At the end of the trial, Mahila Court judge acquitted the two teachers from all the charges.
