Real jaggery success story in this village

| | Bhopal | in Bhopal

Dulakhedi is a small village situated in Petalwad block of Jhabua district, known for its delicious jaggery. The jaggery prepared here under the special care of 85 years old Ramaji Parmar is sold in Mumbai, Pune and Gujarat too.

There was a time, when only maize was produced in the Jhabua district and nobody could ever think of wheat farming in this area. At such a time, Ramaji took a decision to produce jaggery from the sugarcane. He grew sugarcane on a small part of his agriculture field and started producing jaggery. Ramaji never looked back as he succeeded at the beginning itself.

Currently, Ramaji is producing 8 to 10 quintal jaggery in a year. He does not go to the market to sell it; his customers always book the jaggery in advance. As Ramaji grew old, his sons Pannalal and Babulal take care of the entire business under his guidance.

According to Ramaji Parmar, he grows sugarcane in just 2 bigha land due to the water shortage. After planting sugarcane in the month of February-March, he takes yield in the month of January-February during the succeeding year and prepares jaggery out of it. He says that he earns double profit after investing an amount of Rs  20,000 to Rs  30,000.

Jaggery production procedure needs hard labour. Once the furnace is started, it cannot be stopped in the middle till the crushing of last sugarcane. The taste of jaggery becomes poor, if the process takes long time and sugarcane juice remains unused for some hours.

A complete chain is made from cutting, crushing and producing jaggery from the sugarcane. After days and nights of hard work, delicious jaggery is produced. This is reason that demand of jaggery is coming from the surrounding States.
