![]() More companies are suing the FCC over New Neutrality. Heidi Garfiel of Shuttersock’s General Counsel stated, “When net neutrality is rolled back and we don’t have a democratic Internet, the domino effect is potentially less original content being created, less original content being accessed, slow growth, less progress and development, [and] little to no entrepreneurialism.” Shutterstock, Etsy and Kickstarter are among the companies filing a petition with the Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit. They’re challenging the FCC’s ruling that overturned Obama-era net neutrality rules. The companies are part of the Coalition of Internet Openness, and organization that believes in preserving the accessibility of the Internet. As said in the coalition’s joint statement, “The millions of entrepreneurs, creators, brands, and businesses that these companies represent rely on a free and open Internet to inform support, and express themselves, and to bring their ideas to the world.” The Internet Association, which is made up of tech giants like Facebook and Google, also announced in January 2018 that it would intervene to preserve Internet protections. FCC commissioner Ajit Pai defended the FCC’s decision to roll back net neutrality at the mobile world congress in February 27, 2018, stating, “The U.S. is simply making a shift from preemptive regulation, which foolishly presumes that every last wireless company is an anti-competitive monopolist to targeted enforcement based on actual market failure or anti-competitive conduct.”. |
