VELLORE: Forest officials attached rescued a barn owl from a patta land on the periphery of Agaram forest on Wednesday.

Odugathur forest ranger of R Muralidharan said the bird had been attacked by a flock of crows. On being informed, forest officials reached the spot and rescued the owl, which is an endangered species. It comes under Schedule 3 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.


“We gave the bird treatment and gave it fruits to eat. The bird is looking in good shape. We have handed it over to the officials in Amirthi zoo,” said the ranger.


District forest officer Sumesh Soman said the bird would be kept under observation for 10 days in the zoo. It would be released into the forest “once it recovers well.”
