The attack on Lokayukta P. Vishwanatha Shetty has provided another opportunity to the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party to criticise the Congress government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent public rally in Bengaluru, said “the topic of debate in Karnataka is not ease of doing business, but ease of doing murders.”
Now, the BJP’s top leadership is thinking of harnessing the attack on Mr. Shetty by launching a separate campaign on the alleged failure of the law and order situation. It would highlight attacks on police personnel too, sources said.
BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa expressed shock over the attack on the Lokayukta.
“The fact that a miscreant has the courage to attack the Lokayukta in his office is an indication of the weak law and order system,” he said. He urged the government to act sternly against the miscreant so that it would be a warning for others against indulging in similar acts.
CM blamed
Union Minister Ananth Kumar blamed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress for the attack on Mr. Shetty.
Condemning the attack, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Wednesday said: “If a person holding a high office such as Lokayukta has no security, then what will be the state of common man?”
He alleged that the Lokayukta institution had earlier been weakened in the State and now a miscreant had attacked the Lokayukta himself in broad daylight.
