The largely attended political public gatherings in the district have become favourite haunts of the pickpockets. A number of persons have not only had their money stolen but also their mobile phones.
Despite the tight security cordon with 50 police personnel deployed in and around a private function hall during the Sarpanches Sammelan attended by three ministers these nimble fingered persons successfully picked the pockets of a sarpanch and a village assistant.
The victims lost ₹37,000. The incident occurred under the Nizamabad rural police station limits on Monday.
However, the police caught the petty thieves when they were fleeing with stolen money.
What shocked the visitors was that these pickpockets managed to enter despite of metal detectors and all other security equipment and strong presence of police at the gates.
In another incident in the Congress bus yatra at Nandipet an iPhone of a party activist was stolen by miscreants.
The party leaders were heard pleading with the audience over the public address system to return the phone to its rightful owner.
In Bodhan during the Congress bus yatra on Monday party leader Srinivas alias Chinna lost ₹70,000 in his purse in the melee. Apparently these criminals were creating a stampede in the crowds and using the opportunity to get away with their crimes.
