Lucknow Metro assures to repair of all damaged roads with completion of corridor

LUCKNOW: As soon as the metro starts plying on the complete 23 km long North – South corridor by April 2019, people will also get to commute on much smoother roads below the corridor. As per a special plan, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has initiated a proposal to restore all the broken roads and infrastructure that got damaged in the process of metro construction.

The LMRC team will soon be floating a tender worth above Rs 22 crore for repair of all damaged roads along the metro route. The route which begins from Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport up to Munshipulia Crossing is witnessing construction in four stretches at the moment- the airport, the route connecting Transportnagar to the airport (on Kanpur Road), from Charbagh to Hazratganj (underground section of 3.5 km) and from KD Singh Babu Stadium to Munshipulia.

Since about 8.5 km priority stretch from Transportnagar to Charbagh has been commissioned with the road getting repaired early last year, the new tender will not include this stretch. Officials said, “The tender will include repair of roads along the 23 km long N-S corridor minus the 8.5 km priority section. The total length is 14.5 km covering Station, Sachivalaya, MG Marg, University and Faizabad Roads.”

LMRC said that it is a part of their duty to restore the damages done to the roads during construction. But since the stretch was too long, the team thought that it will be good to hire a new contractor to repair the damages. An official said, “On priority stretch, the repair was done by the contractor himself but the remaining stretch is too long and cannot be taken care of by LMRC alone. We need a third party to ensure quality repair before the deadline, so that people don’t face problems while reaching metro stations.”

The finalisation of tender will take few months after which the contractor will be responsible to repair the roads before April 2019 deadline.
