Bengaluru: A 26-year-old cab driver has been arrested for allegedly making lewd gestures at a 20-year-old college student at Vasanthnagar bus stop, central Bengaluru.
Syed alias Ahmed Syed, resident of Mathikere, was produced before a local court on Tuesday and remanded in judicial custody. According to the student’s complaint, she was sitting at the bus stop in the morning when the driver of a Maruti Ritz car, parked near her, stared at her and masturbated.
“It was 10.30am and the bus stop was full of passengers. I was embarrassed by his gesture and changed my place moving to another corner of the stop,” she said.
But the driver followed her in his vehicle and continued his obscene behaviour. “I noted down the number of the car and walked away,” the girl told police.
Based on her statement made on March 3, High Grounds police booked a case under IPC sections 292e (offers or attempts to do any act which is an offence) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). His car has also been seized.
However, police faced a tough time on Tuesday when the girl insisted she wanted to withdraw her complaint. “She wanted the investigation to be stopped. However, we told the girl that the FIR cannot be closed at the will of the complainant in such serious cases. The court will have take a decision on this,” a senior police officer said.
