2019 BMW M8: One More Look At The Real Thing Before The Concept Shows Up

BMW continues the development of the new M8 Coupe, with our spies spotting a test car getting refueled at a gas station in Sweden.

With the Bavarians rumored to preview the range-topping version of the 8-Series with yet another concept at the Geneva Motor Show, this will be our best look at the high-performance two-door coupe that’s set to hit the market from next year.

The upcoming M8 Coupe will employ the powertrain of the current M5, meaning a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 strapped to a clever all-wheel drive system that can disengage the front axle completely.

The new M8 is reportedly getting a “more highly stressed version” of the M5’s powertrain, which already produces 600hp and enables the four-door super-sedan to hit 62mph from a standstill in just 3.4 seconds.

Despite a major leak that pretty much revealed the design of the final production car, BMW is still keeping the 8-Series under wraps, at least until Geneva opens its gates. The range-topping M8 will get a more aggressive look with bigger air intakes and the traditional dual-exhaust setup, as seen from the prototype that also wears bigger brakes with gold calipers.

The last reports suggest that BMW is planning a four-door version of the M8 as well, with the upcoming Geneva concept set to preview exactly that. All we have to do is wait a few more hours to see if the reports are true.

Looks a lot like the old 6-Series with a new number. Wide/bloated. Nothing like the show car.

I honestly feel like this is the 6 series with a different number on it.
