Sri Lankan government has strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence that had sparked off in Ampara and Digana, creating communal disharmony.
In a statement, the government also condemned the hate and mischievous misinformation campaigns targeting the Muslim community in particular.
The statement came as curfew had to be imposed on Monday in Digana of Kandy district where some places of worship, residences and businesses belonging to Muslim community were damaged.
A similar incident had happened in Ampara of eastern province couple of weeks ago.
The government asserted that it will not hesitate to take firm and stern action against perpetrators of crimes, and violate law and order.
Meanwhile, the situation in Digana is slowly returning back to normal.
Special police forces have been deployed to avoid recurrence of any untoward incident.
