Donald Glover To Retire Childish Gambino With Goodbye Tour
From co-creating the FX series Atlanta to starring as Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Star Wars prequel Solo, Donald Glover is having a great run. But his Hollywood success means bad news for fans of Glover's music career, as Grammy-winning rapper Childish Gambino.
The multi-hyphenate shas announced his intention to retire his musical alter ego—but not without embarking on a global victory lap.
Glover's upcoming, month-long tour is in support of his third album, 2016's Awaken, My Love! It will kick off in early September with a stop in Atlanta, where Childish Gambino will be joined by hip-hop pairing Rae Sremmurd of "Black Beatles" fame. The tour will make stops in 13 cities across North America, such as Boston and New York, with the final date expected to take place September 30 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

A presale for Glover's upcoming tour will begin Tuesday, while tickets for the general public will go on sale Friday via Ticketmaster.

Glover first broke big on the NBC show Community. That lead to roles in TV and film, including Ridley Scott's The Martian and Magic Mike XXL. He also created the hit FX series Atlanta, which debuted in 2016 and has earned him Golden Globe and Emmy wins. The second season of the show began earlier this month.
While Glover made his name in Hollywood, he began a second career as rapper Childish Gambino. His first album, Camp, was released in 2011, and he has picked up numerous awards and nominations along with critical acclaim. His third disc, Awaken, My Love!, earned Glover the 2018 Best Traditional R&B Performance Grammy for "Redbone," which also picked up an Album of the Year nomination.
Last June, Glover hinted during his set at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York that he would likely retire his musical persona permanently. "You're in my heart. I'll see you for the last Gambino album," Glover said before festivalgoers. While Glover later confirmed at February's Grammy Awards that he is in the midst of "making another project right now, just, you know, to make," he fully intends to put his music career to bed.
"I like endings and I think they're important to progress," Glover said at the Grammys. "I think, like, if a lot of things had death clauses in them, we wouldn’t have a lot of problems in the world, to be honest. So I think endings are good because they force things to get better."
