The BJP has announced that the party is with Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, NDPP in Nagaland and will go ahead with government formation in the state.
Senior BJP and North East Democratic Alliance leader Hemanta Biswa Sarma said this after meeting with NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio in Kohima on Monday.
Addressing news persons, Mr Sarma clarified that the BJP has severed ties with Naga People's Front as it already has an alliance with the NDPP to provide a stable government in the state.
He informed that Union Minister and BJP Observer for Nagaland J P Nadda will arrive in Dimapur to facilitate the election of the Legislature party leader of the NDPP-BJP Alliance.
Chief Ministerial candidate of the alliance, Nephiu Rio met Governor PB Acharya at the Raj Bhavan and submitted a letter containing the names of MLAs supporting him.
Earlier, the political equation changed in the state as the Tening Assembly Constituency seat was awarded to the NDPP. With this, the total strength of the NDPP has gone up to 18.
BJP has 12 MLAs. Two lawmakers -an Independent and one from the JD(U) have already pledged support to the BJP-NDPP alliance.
On the other hand, Naga People's Front has 27 MLAs and National People’s Party- two.
Central BJP observers including National BJP General Secretary Arun Singh, Union Minister of Health JP Nadda and North East General Secretay Ajay Jamwal will meet the Governor of Nagaland at Raj Bhavan today with the support letter in favour of NDPP-BJP formation under the leadership Neiphiu Rio as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
BJP Nagaland Unit in a statement said the support letter will be submitted under the banner of the People Democratic Alliance.
The state unit has elected Y. Patton as the Leader of the Party in the presence of Central JP Nada, Arun Singh, and Ajay Jamwal.
The name of Patton was proposed by P. Paiwang Konyak and seconded by S. Pangyu Phom. It said L. Khumo from NPP also attended the said meeting.
