HC stays trial against Nithyananda in rape case

more-in

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday stayed the trial against Nithyananda Swami of Nithyananda Dhyanapeeta at Bidadi near Bengaluru, in a rape case.

Justice Budihal R.B. passed the interim order on petitions filed by Nithyananda and five other accused persons. The petitioners had questioned the February 19, 2018 order of a Ramanagaram court, which had decided to frame charges against them while rejecting their applications to discharge them from the case.

The stay will be in force till the high court's final order on their petitions.

It was contended by the petitioner-accused that the trial court had not provided a reasonable opportunity of hearing on their plea to make certain submissions while also claiming that the trial court decided to frame the charges without properly applying its mind on the charge sheet and related documents.
