Allegedly abused them for being late in attending to a complaint

Two gangmen, attached to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) were allegedly attacked by a group of men for allegedly being late in attending to a power disconnection complaint at Marenahalli 7th block, Jayanagar, on Friday night.

The injured gangmen, Y. Sridharamurthy and Dilip Kumar, were admitted to a private hospital and discharged on Saturday.

According to the police, the duo were attending a maintenance work on Hosur Road around 10 p.m. when they received a message from Assistant Executive Engineer H.M. Umesh asking them to go to Marenahalli as a power line had snapped.

Earlier, Mr. Umesh had received a complaint from Ramamurthy, a local BJP leader and husband of the councillor of Pattabhirama Nagar ward.

After locating the address, as the duo began inspecting the area, a gang of men attacked them, hurling abuses for coming late, the gangmen said in the complaint.

Hearing the commotion, residents rushed out of their homes, but remained mute spectators as the gang continued to attack the duo.

The injured duo managed to call Mr. Umesh, who filed a complaint with the Jayanagar police.

The police have taken up a case of under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 323 (assault) and 149 (unlawful assembly) against the attackers.

The police questioned residents and identified the attackers, who are on the run. “Their arrest would lead us to the person who instigated the attack and the motive,” a senior police officer said.
