| | Jagdalpur | in Raipur

Villagers of Bhopalpatnam region fearing submergence of their villages due to construction of Dewadula Water project at Bhupalpalli of neighbouring Telangana state,  have warned of launching intense agitation from March 10.

The villagers, a couple of days ago had taken out a protest and had handed over a Memorandum to Tehsildar, demanding intervention from the Chhattisgarh government over the issue.

They had warned that if their demands were not conceded , they would launch an agitation from March 10.

Villagers of at least 12 villages of Bhopalpatnam region are against the construction of 100 feet high Dewadula Water Project in Godawari River in Telangana.

The villagers alleged that the construction of the dam would inundate the villages Kottur (Tarlaguda), Chandur, Bhadrakali and Atukpalli Panchayats of the state.

The Chhattisgarh government is not taking any initiative into the matter and the project is posing the threat of displacement of the villagers, they alleged.

These villages of the region would be badly affected with the construction of dam and the fertile land in which they grow pulses, maize as well as paddy, the villagers said.

The construction work of the dam is going on at a fast pace and an immediate action is needed from the Chhattisgarh Government, they said.
