Mumbai: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Girish Bapat on Tuesday assured the Legislative Council that the government will ensure that adequate medical treatment is provided to senior NCP leader and member of assembly Chhagan Bhujbal at a government-run hospital.
Transport Minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Diwakar Raote raised the issue in the council on which the chairman said that the government should decide on the issue of medical treatment for Bhujbal. Taking part in the debate, Tatkare wanted to know under what rule had Raote raised the issue.
However, the debate was preceded by heated exchanges between Sunil Tatkare (NCP) and ruling BJP treasury members as the former referred to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar coming to Mumbai for medical treatment and not availing it in Goa. Tatkare later withdrew his remarks, but not before Council Chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar adjourned the proceedings briefly for 15 minutes as uproar continued.
After the house reassembled, Tatkare withdrew his remarks on Parrikar.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Girish Bapat said that Pankaj Bhujbal had discussed the issue with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He added that the government has also discussed the possibility of providing medical treatment to Bhujbal with Director General of Police (Prisons).
He assured that government will take care in providing proper medical treatment to Bhujbal. Raote sought to argue that he merely wanted the government to clarify as a wrong message was being sent out that the treatment at government run JJ Hospital was not of quality.
Paricharak told not to attend the house
Taking note of the sentiments expressed in the house, Legislative Council Chairman directed Girish Bapat to convey to independent MLC Prashant Paricharak that he should not attend the proceedings till he does not give his ruling on the second resolution moved by Anil Parab (Shiv Sena). As soon as the house assembled for the day, Parab said that after the house approved the motion revoking the suspension of Paricharak last week, he had moved a second motion seeking dismissal of Paricharak and that he should be booked for treason.
