Kerala Tourism staged a roadshow in the city on Tuesday as part of efforts to attract more domestic visitors to its destinations promoted under sustainable development initiatives and to its heritage areas for the upcoming summer holidays. A meet organised between representatives of tourism and trade business of Kerala and Tamil Nadu focused on Muzuris heritage project, the UNESCO-backed spice route project and other destinations as potential tourist spots.
Kerala received 1,31,72,535 domestic tourists in 2016, a 5.67% increase compared to the previous year. Anil V S, deputy director of Kerala Tourism, said that to reach out to domestic market a string of partnership meets were being planned in 11 cities. The state will also start the 5th edition of Kerala Blog Express, a unique social media outreach, on March 12.
