CHENNAI: Veteran
agriculture scientist
M S Swaminathan on Tuesday received the Bharath Shanthi Dhootha (messenger of peace) award from Warangal-based World Peace Festival Society (WPFS). The award honours Swaminathan’s six-decade-long contribution to agricultural science in India and his advocacy for sustainable agriculture, leading to an evergreen revolution, said a release from the MSSRF.
After receiving the award, Swaminathan expressed happiness that there was a link between peace and hunger. He said, “Where hunger rules, peace cannot prevail.”
Quoting Albert Einstein and Bertrand Russell, he said, “Remember your humanity and forget the rest. If you can do so, the way lies open to a new paradise; if you cannot, there lies before you the risk of universal death.”
The WPFS was started in 1997 to promote the ideals of peace in the world. The ‘Shanthi Dootha’ award is given to individuals who have contributed immensely to the welfare of society.
