VELLORE: After launching the enrolment drive on January 21, the
Rajini Makkal Mandram is inching closer to a lakh
membership. It has intensified its drive to enroll three lakh members within a couple of months.
Enrolling over 92,ooo members in the first phase of the drive that kick-started on January 21, the functionaries have set an interim target of 1.50 lakh members in the party by the third week of March.
“We have received 1.12 lakh applications from across the district. Of them, we filtered over 22,000 applications that were incomplete. We submitted the remaining applications to the state-level committee on February 13,” district president of Rajini Makkal Mandram ‘Sholinghur’ N Ravi told TOI.
Rajini Makkal Mandram has received over 33,000 applications till date and is aiming to enroll 50,000 members in the phase II of the drive. “We will achieve this target by the middle of March,” he said.
There has been an overwhelming response from the people, who are desperately looking for a change in the political scenario. They want a leader who would guarantee development and corrupt-free administration, he said, adding, “The answer to the expectations of the people is our Thalaivar (leader). Hence, we are not finding it difficult to carry out the enrollment drive. Hundreds of people are volunteering to join Rajini Makkal Mandram.”
After the maiden meeting of Rajini Makkal Mandram in
Vellore on January 20, Ravi put up a special camp at Sholinghur Bus stand. “Within a day, around 8,000 people from the town and neighbouring villages submitted their address and identity proof and expressed their willingness to join Rajini Makkal Mandram,” he added.
However, they are lagging behind the target set by the state-level committee. It set a target enrollment of 20% of the total voters of 30.51 lakh in 13 constituencies in the district. “We have been asked to enroll 7 lakh members in the district. We have been taking all efforts to achieve the target and implement the model of having strong grossroots level functionaries-cum-voters in panchayat, union and town level,” said another member of Rajini Makkal Mandram involved in the enrollment drive.
He further said Rajini Makkal Mandram has received a good response in Sholinghur, K V Kuppam, Walajapet and Anaicut constituencies and has received around 15,000 applications from each of the four constituencies. “We received around 5,000 to 8,000 applications from other constituencies,” he added.
