A video of an officer apparently fighting a motorist has emerged on Facebook.

In the video which was posted by Facebook user Tebogo F Machetele  the two Gauteng Traffic officers can be seen trying to arrest the motorist. One of the officers is on top of the motorist while the other tries to break them apart.

The incident happened on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Pretoria.

Pretoria Police Spokesperson Busapi Nxumalo told DRUM that the officer was only trying to make an arrest when the motorist allegedly attacked him.

“The officer claimed that he pulled the motorist over and saw multiple problems with his car, which he gave him tickets for.”

“His car was not roadworthy and upon searching his car, the officers found him to be in the possession of mauirjuana,” she explained.

The officers then allegedly told the motorist that they are placing him under arrest and that is when the he went over to their police car and took the keys out of the ignition.

“When the officers tried to get the keys from the motorist, he attacked one of the officers which resulted in the altercation,” she told DRUM.

According to Nxumalo, the motorist has now been charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and the possession of dagga.

The video has been watched over 150 000 times on Facebook.
