A tent school meant for children of workers who have come here from other States continues to function even though many activities surrounding Mahamastakabhisheka have come to an end at Shravanabelagola.
Around 10 students were in the temporary school set up close to the labour colony at Kalasha Nagar on Friday. All the students were from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Their parents had come for cleaning in the temporary townships during Mahamastakabhisheka.
H.S. Jagadish, block resource person of the Education Department, told The Hindu: “The tent school is attached to the government primary school at Sundahalli. A teacher from the school has been deputed to the tent school. We normally teach them in Hindi.” K. Rani is the teacher and Bhavya, a volunteer, assists her.
The school was started on January 18. More than 40 students attended it initially. As some of the families returned to their native places, the number has come down. The district administration has asked the Education Department to run the school till March 15. The children get midday meals, bags and books.
