Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday alleged that the Congress government in the State was supporting “jihadi elements” that have become a threat to national security.
Addressing the valedictory function of the four-day Jana Suraksha Yatra of the BJP at Nehru Maidan in the city, he alleged that the State government’s recent attempt to withdraw cases against members of some organisations indicated the candid support of the Congress for such organisations. It shows there is something wrong with the government’s line of thinking, he said.
He claimed that under Congress rule, people were feeling insecure. In all, 24 Hindu activists have been murdered after the Congress took over, he alleged, adding that development and security go hand in hand for a State to prosper.
He claimed that the BJP has been able to control crime and corruption in Uttar Pradesh within 11 months of coming to power. As a result, he said, at the recently held investors’ summit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh was promised of investments to the tune of ₹4.7 lakh crore. Karnataka too can have such a change if the party is voted to power in the coming Assembly elections, he said.
‘Freeing’ the State
Mr. Adityanath said the BJP has been able to free northeastern States from the rule of the Congress and the Left, and there was a similar need in Karnataka as well. Mr. Adityanath also described the Congress government as “anti-farmer” and “anti-Hindu”. He reiterated that the Congress was using Karnataka as an “ATM” to fund its activities.
B.S. Yeddyurappa, president of the State unit of BJP, said that if the party emerges victorious, it would withdraw the cases filed against Hindu activists within 24 hours of taking charge.
He said a BJP government would also press the Union government to open a unit of the National Investigation Agency in Mangaluru. The government will be tough against extremist organisations that are allegedly spreading their activities from Kerala, he added.
