Gold and silver got a lift from higher demand for precious metals on Tuesday and a weaker dollar index.
MCX Gold futures were trading up 0.19 per cent, or Rs 58, at Rs 30,409 per 10 grams at around 10.35 am (IST). MCX Silver futures were higher 0.27 per cent, or Rs 103, at Rs 38,734 per 1 kg.
The dollar index came down even as worries of a trade war following US President Donald Trump’s proposal to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminium receded a bit.
Latest holdings of SPDR Gold Trust climbed 0.35 per cent to 833.98 tonnes on March 1, from 831.03 tonnes on February 28.
According to SMC Investments and Advisors, the bullion counter may continue its recent upside momentum with profit booking in the greenback amid lingering worries about a trade confrontation. On domestic bourses, gold can recover towards Rs 30,500 and silver Rs 39,100 on the MCX.
Benchmark equity indices were in the positive zone on Tuesday following global cues. The BSE Sensex was up 140 points at 33,887 while the NSE Nifty rose 48 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 10,407.
