Says case can be registered if warranted

The Madras High Court on Monday directed the police to register a case, only if any cognisable offence had been made out, against DMK leader Kanimozhi, lyricist Vairamuthu and Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Justice M.S. Ramesh issued the direction on a petition filed by G. Radhakrishnan, president of the State unit of the Shiv Sena, who alleged that it all began with the lyricist penning an article for a Tamil daily making unwarranted remarks against saint poet Andal, worshipped as a Goddess. Thereafter, Ms. Kanimozhi and others too hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindus.
