‘Potable water crisis in Jodhpur to be resolved on priority’

Jaipur: PHED minister Surendra Goyal assured that the drinking water problem in Jodhpur and surrounding areas would be attended to on a priority basis. He was replying to the concerns raised by the MLAs from Jodhpur, who claimed that some areas are already facing water problem and with the Indira Gandhi canal to be closed for repair from March 29 to May 2, the problem is expected to aggravate.

Goyal said, about 1013 villages under Jodhpur and Barmer depends on the Indira Gandhi canal for drinking water supply. About 20.73 MCFT of water from Indira Gandhi canal is supplied in these areas through the Rajiv Gandhi lift canal project.


He said, the Indira Gandhi canal would be closed for maintenance from March 29- to May 2 (35 days) this year. He said from RD 415 from RD 1125 would be closed and the stored water would be supplied through the Rajiv Gandhi Lift canal for this period. The minister informed that 555MCFT of water thus stored is sufficient to meet the demand of this period.


Goyal said, about 170 MCFT water the local water sources like Kayalana, Thakt Sagar, Supur about 40 MCFT of water is stored in various ponds to meet energy water supply needs.


The minister also announced a Rs 15 crore project for 22 villages under Ahore assembly segment in Jalore under cluster distribution system. He also informed that project worth Rs 449 crore is in the pipeline under the ER(Early Recovery) Cluster distribution system to provide drinking water to 256 villages.
