indexShot by Jean Yves Cousteau, Le Monde du Silence or the Silent World is one of the two first underwater films in the world. This film was shot in our well-known Assumption Island, Seychelles. The underwater world of this island soon turned out to be the dream location for this Cousteau film. Initially, he had to film at Aldabra. However, the underwater commotion forced him and his team to secure the “Calypso” just next door at Assumption.

As famous filmmakers welcomed and particularly remember the beauty of this gorgeous island, few of our nationals may need some reminding. An agreement was signed between the Government of Seychelles and India to put up a Military Base on Assumption Island. To this agreement, peaceful protests are still quite extensive in the town of Victoria, with many locals of Seychelles meeting weekly to sign and circulate petitions to deter the Government to move ahead with this agreement, particularly given that Aldabra, the UNESCO world heritage site, is just close by from Assumption Island. It would show that around 8 out of every 10 Seychellois resist the anticipated military base on Assumption Island along with 120,000 thousand plus signatures recorded by now on the petition opposing that base speak for themselves.
