Inter-State road robbers arrested

Hazaribagh: Hazaribagh police have arrested members of an inter-State road robbers’ gang from National Highway 33 near Hatiyari more of Charhi valley on Ranchi-Patna Road on Sunday evening. Police have recovered cash, arms and ammunitions from them. The gang leader escaped due to darkness, said police.

Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Anish Gupta said on Monday that the officer in charge of Muffsil police station  Suman Kumar got the information that some of the robbers were looting the trucks in the Charhi valley on Ranchi – Patna road. He immediately rushed to the spot with police forces.

As the robbers saw the police they tried to run away from there towards the jungle. Police chased them and arrested two persons. The third one escaped from the police due to darkness. The arrested robbers are Gaffar Ansari and Ashfaque Ansari. The kingpin of this gang is Shami Akbar Ansari, who is the resident of Ormanjhi of Ranchi district.

Gupta further said that the robbers opened two rounds of fire on the police force. Police also returned fire. He said that the arrested looters have long criminal history. “We are investigating their history. They have been to jail several times,” said the SP. Police have recovered Rs6,000 cash, two country made pistols, four live cartridges, one car, mobile sets and mobile batteries.             PNS
