Has established a call centre that will function round-the-clock to receive water-related complaints

With temperatures set to rise, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has prepared a contingency plan for the summer.

The water board has established a call centre that will function round-the-clock to receive water-related complaints. An employee will be deputed to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control room to receive and monitor water-related complaints. Any complaints received will be immediately transferred to the assistant executive engineer / assistant engineer concerned. Feedback will be provided after the complaint has been attended to.

The BWSSB has 68 water tankers and filling stations at the ground-level reservoirs to supply water to areas facing a water scarcity. Depending on the present water supply position, the areas facing scarcity have been identified in each of the 31 sub-divisions and 108 service station areas.

Senior officials have been directed to monitor water supply in all the sub-divisions, take up intensive inspection and interact with the public to sort out issues related to water supply, if any. The officials have been instructed to be available at the service stations in both core areas and outer zones of the city at 8 a.m. and during supply hours, to monitor water supply.

Chlorination plants provided in the distribution system are being maintained by a company and the residual chlorine is being maintained at 0.2 ppm. This is to prevent water contamination and spread of gastroenteritis during the summer months.

Water samples will be collected and analysed at the Central Water Testing Laboratory to monitor water quality.

According to the BWSSB, the existing 1,600 borewell mini water tanks had been cleaned to ensure quality. Tenders have been finalised for procurement of a bigger diametre pipe for 15,000 running metres through central stores. That apart, to ensure that borewell complaints are attended to quickly, action has been initiated for the procurement of suitable submersible pump sets.
