BHUBANESWAR: The
BJD on Tuesday sought removal of suspended MP
Baijayant Panda from Pparliamentary Standing Committee on Home affairs.
Party’s leader in Lok Sabha
Bhartruhari Mahtab, in a letter to Lok Sabha speaker
Sumitra Mahajan, also requested to allocate Panda a separate seat away from the seats earmarked for members of BJD in the Lok Sabha chamber.
“Panda is a member of Standing Committee on Home affairs on the strength of BJD (in the Parliament). Since, he has now been suspended from the membership of BJD; we wish to have another member of our party in the committee on Home affairs,” Mahtab noted in his letter.
On January 24, the BJD suspended Panda, one of its high-profile MP, from primary membership, accusing him of indulging in anti-party activities.
The letter to the Lok Sabha speaker was to take all consequential actions, official sources said. Panda was not available for further comments on the development.
According to sources, the party wants to induct its chief whip in the Lok Sabha and Dhenkanal MP
Tathagata Satpathy as member of the Standing Committee on Home affairs.
Though, the party recently announced to restructure the representation of its MPs in various standing and consultative committees of the Parliament, there will be no changes for the time being.
“There will be no changes for BJD MPs in the existing parliamentary standing committees. They will continue to be members of same committees as before,” informed Mahtab.
The decision to restructure its representation in the parliamentary committee was taken during the parliamentary party meet at Naveen Niwas on Saturday.
