A CBI team investigating the corruption charges against a Border Security Force Commandant from Kerala has nabbed the kingpin of an international smuggling racket.
The arrested was identified as Muhammad Inamul Haq, a native of Kolkata. The CBI sleuths had earlier arrested Jibu T. Mathew, a BSF commandant from Pathanamthitta deployed on the Indo-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad, at the Alappuzha railway station and seized ₹47 lakh from him.
During interrogation, Jibu confessed to receiving the money from one Bishu Sheikh. An examination of his call records confirmed the person to be Muhammad Inamul Haq, whose location was tracked down through cyber investigation. The investigation also revealed that the smuggler handed over money to the BSF officer to facilitate cattle smuggling on the Indo-Bangla border.
The CBI team arrested him on his arrival from Dhaka in Bangladesh. On recording his arrest, Haq was produced before the Kolkata Metropolitan Magistrate and brought to Kochi on a transit warrant.
