Rashtrakuta’s importance to Kannada vital: Writer

With cultural events enthralling the audience, the Rashtrakuta Utsav ended in Malkhed village in Sedam taluk, Kalaburagi district, on Monday. Earlier in the day, several deliberative sessions on the contributions of Rashtrakuta rulers, musical and poem reciting session were held.

In one of the sessions, Kannada writer Kum. Veerabhadrappa hailed the Rashtrakuta kingdom as a protector and nurturer of Kannada language, literature and culture.

“The contributions of Rashtrakutas to the life and culture of Kannada is of utmost importance. The glory reached the peak during the regime of Emperor Amoghavarsha Nrupatunga, who ruled for 64 years and penned the first classical Kannada work, Kavirajamarga,” he said.

He also lauded the contributions of Rashtrakuta scholars such as mathematician Mahaveeracharya and intellectuals Jinasenacharya, Ajitasenacharya and Gunabhadracharya.

Mr. Veerabhadrappa urged the government to organise Bahamani Utsav and the 14th sufi saint Khaja Bande Nawaz Utsav to recognise their contribution.

The former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Sanskrit University Mallepuram G. Venkatesh also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Patil also laid the foundation stone for raising the Malkhed Bridge across the Kagina at a cost of ₹25 crore.

Performance by music composer Arjun Janya enthralled the audience at the end of the utsav.
