Donning a Khaki-coloured shirt, actor Upendra announced that he was quitting Karnataka Pragnyavantara Janata Paksha (KPJP). He said he would launch another party - ‘Prajakeeya’ - representing the workers.
The decision to quit KPJP and launch ‘Prajakeeya’ was taken after a 100-minute long meeting with supporters and candidates chosen for over 150 constituencies
He told reporters here on Tuesday that he would quit KPJP, along with a “few friends”, forthwith. “It is natural for a child to stumble before learning to walk... similar was our experiment with KPJP,” he said and admitted to have behaved autocratically to protect values and accord justice to genuine candidates.
He said he would continue to propagate the values of the ‘Prajakeeya’ (labour class). He also said that ‘Prajakeeya’ would focus on education, health and transparency in governance, as promised earlier.
Mr. Upendra added that he would the process to register the new party immediately in hope of contesting in the upcoming Assembly polls.
