Two boys drowned in a pond at Ogalur village in the district on Sunday.
Police gave the names of the deceased as D. Sakthi (12)- a class VII student of Government Higher Secondary School at Ogalur and M. Santhosh (11) - who was studying sixth standard at the Government Adi Dravidar Welfare School in the same village.
Police sources said the two boys along with K. Sakthivel (11) had gone to the water body to take bath. Unaware of the depth at a certain spot, the trio jumped in. On seeing Sakthivel frantically waving from the water, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him. Meanwhile, Sakthi and Santhosh drowned. Their bodies were retrieved and sent to Perambalur GH for post mortem and handed over to their parents. The Mangalamedu police have registered a case.
