Toyota Aygo Gets An (Un)-X-Citing Facelift For Geneva

Toyota marked the world premiere of the facelifted Aygo the Geneva Motor Show.

Starting with the exterior, the model has been equipped with a new fascia which features recessed accents beneath the restyled headlights. Toyota says this change transforms the car’s X-shaped front end into a “more powerful, three-dimensional architectural element.”

Additional changes are limited but the Aygo features new taillights as well as a revised color palette that includes blue and magenta. Lastly, the model can be equipped with “technical-look” wheel caps or 15-inch alloy wheels.

Toyota declined to release interior photos but said the cabin has a revised instrument cluster with new graphics and illumination. Most models have also been equipped with new upholstery and there’s a “more premium color scheme in Quartz Grey and Piano Black.”

Three different trim levels will be available and the mid-level Aygo x-play comes with air-conditioning and a 7-inch infotainment system. Moving up to the x-clusiv variant adds an automatic climate control system, partial leather seats and a suite of Toyota Safety Sense systems. The model also boasts a two-tone exterior and unique 15-inch alloy wheels.

Toyota will also be offering two specials editions. The Aygo x-cite has a two-tone magenta exterior and 15-inch alloy wheels with a black finish. Inside, there are body-color accents and special seats with magenta stitching.

The Aygo x-trend goes in a different direction as it has black exterior with cyan accents and “sporting stickers.” That theme continues in the cabin as drivers will find cyan details and partial leather seats.

Power is provided by an upgraded 998cc three-cylinder engine that features a higher compression ratio, a new fuel injection system and an improved balance shaft to reduce vibrations when idling. Thanks to these and other improvements, the engine now develops 72 PS (53 kW) and 93 Nm (68 lb-ft) of torque.

As you’d expect, the performance is pretty underwhelming as the dash from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 13.8 seconds and the top speed is just 160 km/h (99 mph). On the bright side, the model consumes 3.9L/100km (60.3 mpg US / 72.4 mpg UK) and has CO2 emissions of 90 g/km.

Toyota doesn’t get it, do they??!!

    • LWOAP

Or course they do. They put a BMW engine in the upcoming Supra. That’s quality German engineering right there.

      • Zandit75

Should have been the new generation of the twin turbo straight six from the last Supra.

        • LWOAP

B-but you don’t understand. Toyota wanted to make the ultimate driving machine and who better to help them out with that then BMW? The renowned German manufacturer who had one of their most iconic model’s lunch money stolen from it by a four door saloon made by a brand with reliability issues. It’s a no brainer when you think about it.

Ok, I’m done. Seriously, though I think that Toyota was trying to keep the cost of development as low as possible and this co-operation with BMW was a way of doing it.

Which would be a brand-new engine, which costs more than what Toyota wanted to invest for an engine for a single model. The BMW partnership made more sense.

  • CADOX

I think the front is lot better than the current one, overall it looks more qualitative than its PSA cousins.

i feel like this thing gets a facelift every year

current co2 emmissions lists as 95g/km. The new engine is listed at 90g/km. That is a massive improvement. I firmly believe that naturally aspirated non hybrid City cars are the cleanest cars out there at the moment in terms of whole life environmental costs. It won’t stay that way in the future but at present if you want to be green you should drive a city car.

    That’s one angry little car.

Now thats any ugly looking turd!! But heres what i dont get… Seriously… The aygo is called the agya here in indonesia, or the ayla if its made by daihatsu. But here there are 2 variants.. 1lt and 1.2 and the styling looks waaaaaayyyy better than this doodle. Why toyota didnt just bring the original agya over instead of that thing?

    • Ayberk Yılmaz

Aygo does not have much in common with Agya/Ayla and selling these would be a disaster for Toyota since they are specially designed for developing countries.

Toyota also talks a lot of bull.
