officials to come office on cycles every Wed
Chandigarh: To promote cycling, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) Commissioner Jitender Yadav on Monday passed an order that all the employees, including the officers of MCC, shall come to the office by cycle every Wednesday. The Commissioner convened a meeting of all heads of the departments of different branches of MCC including engineering, sanitation, enforcement and others, and conveyed the message regarding use of cycle. He said that only persons having genuine excuse will be spared on medical grounds and others will have to come to office by cycles only. Besides, employees coming from outskirts of Chandigarh can come through public transport. He also directed all HODs to ensure proper compliance of the order on every Wednesday and prepare a report on the same.
Vigilance bureau nabs revenue patwari
Chandigarh: Punjab State Vigilance Bureau on Monday nabbed Revenue Patwari red handed while accepting Rs 13,000 bribe. Spokesperson said that patwari Subhash Chander posted at Alam Shah in Fazilka district was nabbed red handed by Vigilance team for accepting Rs 13,000 bribe from complainant Gurmeet Singh of village Alam Shah. The complainant has alleged that the accused Patwari was demanding Rs 13,000 for mutation of his land. A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ferozepur and further investigation was under progress.
Rs 81.54 lac spent on prividing nutritious food
SAS Nagar: A total of Rs 81.54 lakh has been spent for providing nutritious food to the small children and lactating mothers through Supplementary Nutrition Scheme in Mohali district for development and welfare of children and females. “There are 614 Anganwari centers working in various villages, towns and cities of the district where 22 supervisors and 614 Anganwari workers have been deputed to provide nutritious food including dalia, panjiri, and sweet rice etc to 19,318 children,” said Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, adding that the meal is provided for 300 days in a year. Besides, 5,515 out of 8,175 pregnant and lactating mothers were also covered under the scheme.
CUP to give training to IELTS aspirants
Chandigarh: Cambridge University Press (CUP), English Language Teaching (ELT) Publisher, on Monday announced its partnership with Raffles Educity to enrich IELTS learning ecosystem in Punjab. Raffles joins Cambridge’s IELTS Partnership Program as a ‘platinum partner’, under which it will use Cambridge’s official IELTS preparation material and avail CUP’s value-added services for IELTS coaching. Raffles presently has centers in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Bhatinda.

Panel to decide on varsity
Chandigarh: Haryana Government on Monday constituted a Committee under the chairmanship of Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma to decide and deliberate upon the character, scope and modalities of the proposed Pandit Lakhmi Chand University of Culture to be set up at Aterna village in Sonepat district. Other members include Art and Culture Affairs Minister Kavita Jain, Administrative Secretary of Higher Education Department, Vice-Chancellors of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur and Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and IAS (retired) Rajiv Sharma. Director General, Higher Education Department would be the Member Secretary of the Committee.

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday called on first voter of the country Shyam Saran Negi telephonically to enquire about his well being.Thakur urged him to ask Deputy Commissioner, Kinnaur in case of any emergency or assistance and the Government would provide every possible help to him. He said that in near future whenever he will visit Kinnaur, he will surely meet Negi personally. He wished him a healthy and long life ahead.
