‘Every household will get 100 litres of water by June 30’

Panchayat Raj Minister J. Krishna Rao here on Monday said the Government had completed laying pipeline over two lakh kilometres to supply safe drinking water in a record time of three years. “This is making history as in no State in the country has such a great mission been completed till now,” he said.

Addressing the Sarpanches Sammelan of 13 districts, he said every household would get 100 litres of water under the Mission Bhagiratha by June 30. Construction of overhead tanks would be completed in all villages by March 31, he said, adding that the scheme was launched to reduce the financial burden on gram panchayats to give drinking water.

Appealing to the GPs to use LED lights, he said with the twin programmes financial burden on panchatyats would drastically come down, enabling them to spend the amount on other needs. Fund crunch in GPs would be addressed by strengthening the Panchayat Act, he said.

Endowment Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy suggested that the gram panchayats explore ways to improve their financial strength. With the implementation of the Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya, water shortage in villages would be solved, he said.

Forest Minister J. Ramanna said gram panchayats would get good name if the sarpanches worked sincerely to solve problems.

The political future of a person would be decided at the sarpanch level, he said and suggested to them to improve the greenery and sanitation.

MLCs D. Rajeswar and V.G. Goud, TSIPRD CEO Pousami Basu and Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao spoke.
