1200 trained home guards contributing to maintaining law and order

After assisting the state police in maintaining law and order and various other jobs, home guard jawans are now set to guard international and inter-state borders of Uttar Pradesh. The move was initiated to further boost security along the borders to check cross-border smuggling and avert influx of criminals and unwanted elements into the state. 

``Home guard jawans are contributing to maintaining law and order, check crime, traffic management etc in the state. From now on it has been decided to deploy them on indo-Nepal and UP-Bihar borders so that they could facilitate the Central and state force to check criminal, subversive and other unlawful activities,” announced Director General of Home Guards, Surya Kumar Shukla. 

Talking to the media in Fatehpur on Monday morning, Shukla, said that 1200 home guards have already been iomparted training for  the new assignment by sleuths of Armed Forces. Now they were ready to boost security on Indo-Nepal and UP-Bihar borders, presently manned by jawans of Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and UP Police personnel. 

``We have provided a list of 1200 trained home guards to the Central government. After a nod from the Centre, their deployment will start and they will be further trained,” Shukla said. 

The DG said that the eployment of home guard jawans on international and inter-state borders would further help security forces in checking smugglings of arms and ammunitions, drugs, human trafficking, counterfeit currency etc and also the entry of criminals into the state. 

Shukla said  that state government was happy with functioning of Home Guards volunteers and a `Flag’ was presented to the force recently. He also said that the condition of home guards has improved a lot as now every jawan are employed throughout the year. 

The DG said that some more welfare measures have been also planned for home guard personnel and they would try to implement them soon so that the jawans could freely work.
