Sri Lanka imposed a curfew on Monday on the central hill station town popular with tourists after days of communal unrest that saw a man killed and Muslim businesses set on fire. On Tuesday, a government spokesperson said that Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency for 10 days to rein in the spread of communal violence a day after Buddhists and Muslims clashed in Kandy.

Hours before the tri-series is set to begin with hosts Sri Lanka playing the Indian cricket team at the R Premadasa Stadium, the BCCI media manager told reporters in Colombo: “The situation in picture is Kandy and not Colombo. This is to notify everyone that after talking to concerned security personnel, we have understood that the situation is completely normal in Colombo.”

A source in Colombo told TOI Sports that there was nothing to worry about in regards to the tri-series being impacted. The 2018 Nidahas Trophy runs from March 6 to 18 in Sri Lanka.
