Hundreds of plants gutted in forest fire

Hundreds of plants were gutted in fire in the Demma protected forest area under Bhavanathpur range of ??Kandi block in the district. The fire broke out at around 2 pm on Saturday. According to the forest guard Devanand people of Demma village informed that they saw the flames of fire from the western part of the forest area. Villagers and children, who reached near the forest and extinguished the fire.

Forest department had planted 50,000 different species of plants in 50 hectares of this forest land in the year of 2014-15.

Eyewitnesses said that at that time a large number of small animals rabbit and mice were seen running away while the fire broke out. After receiving information of the incident, Mukhiya of Sarkoni Panchayat Meena Devi, Chief Arun and MLA Representative MLA Ajay Singh visited the forest area on Sunday. He told that the fire has caused a lot of damage. The forest department can only assess the loss.

Approximately 80 per cent of trees and plants have been burnt and some have become scorched. He said that the department examined the incident and took action against the guilty. This tree was the heritage of the panchayat. On information about the fire in the forest, Ranger Munna Paswan took stock of the situation after visit the incident place and said that the plants have sunk in the event of a fire. Their root is not burnt. In such a way, these plants can be green again to a large extent.
