| | PURI | in Bhubaneswar

A Puri-based international stone sculptor Rajendra Mishra has carved a replica of the 12th-century Jagannath temple from stone.

Mishra has created the miniature version of the temple of two feet length and two feet width and a foot in height. He said, “I had a dream and I have tried to come up with this miniature version. We had worked for a year to carve out the structure with stone.”

He mentioned that as taking pictures inside the Shree Jagannath Temple is prohibited, “I use to visit the temple and make sketches along with two other artisans on a daily basis to give the miniature a perfect shape.”

A resident of Kunddheibenta Sahi in Puri, Mishra has also served as an instructor in the State Institute for Development Art and Craft, Handicraft Complex, Bhubaneswar and Special Handicraft Training Project ‘Guru Shisya Parampara’ under DC Handicraft.

He has bagged many awards and certificates like State Merit Certificate in 2000, Kalinga Silpi Award in 2001, National Award in 2001, Kalamani Purskar in 2004 and Kamaladebi Puraskar in 2012.
