Minimum temp drop in HP, chilly winds lash Shimla

Minimum temperatures dropped across by two to three degree as higher reaches and tribal belt experienced fresh snowfall while mid and lower hills had scattered rains. Rohtang, Gondla, Khadrala and Kalpa received snow of 25, 18, 3 and 2 cm, the local MeT department said. Moderate to heavy rains occurred in mid and lower hills and Banjar and Mandi received 35 mm and 20 mm rains respectively, followed by Baijnath (12 mm), Bhuntar (11 mm), Bijahi (9 mm) and Manali(7 mm). The minimum temperatures across the state dropped by one to three degree and Keylong, Kalpa and Manali reeled under sub-zero temperature with mercury staying at minus 4.3, minus 2.0 and minus 0.2 degrees Celsius respectively. Bhuntar recorded a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius, three degree below normal while Shimla and Sundernagar recorded the minimum temperature at 5.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Solan, Palampur, Dharamsala, Una and Nahan. However, the maximum temperatures stayed close to normal. Chilly winds lashed Shimla and surrounding areas and sky remained heavily overcast. The local has forecast dry in lower hills over the next six days and rains and snow in mid and higher hills on March 8 and 9.
