The High Court of Karnataka on Monday dismissed a petition that had sought a direction to the Karnataka Lokayukta to initiate action against 78 MLAs for “intentional insult and bringing disrepute” to the then Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi by their action of moving a motion in the Legislative Assembly to impeach Mr. Adi.
A Division Bench comprising Justice H.G. Ramesh and Justice B.M. Shyam Prasad said there was no wrong in the order of the Lokayukta who had rejected the complaint filed by the petitioners, Adarsh R. Iyer and Prakash Babu B.K., co-presidents of Janaadhikaara Sangharsha Parishath, a social organisation.
The petitioners had questioned the Lokayukta’s September 1, 2017 order of rejecting their complaint as “not maintainable” as it was only Mr. Adi who had the right to file such complaint under the Section 17(2) of the Karnataka Lokayukta Act for “intentional insult and bringing disrepute” to the Upalokayukta.
