Celtics' Irving out vs. Bulls with knee soreness
Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was ruled out for Monday night's game in Chicago with knee soreness.
In Saturday night's 123-120 loss to the Houston Rockets, Irving finished with 18 points and six assists in 35 minutes.
Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Monday morning that Irving aggravated his knee during the game at Houston and wouldn't play against the Bulls, who are 21-41 entering Monday's game. One of the Bulls' victories came against the Celtics in a 108-85 shocker at United Center on Dec. 11. Irving did not play in that game because of a bruised left quadriceps.
"He was playing and felt it throughout the night," Stevens said, adding the knee was better on Sunday but it was sore Monday when Irving woke up.
Irving, 25, leads the Celtics with 24.8 points and 5.1 assists per game this season.
