BRCS plea to distribute scholarships

more-in

Bharatiya Rashtriya Congress Seva (BRCS) Kozhikode unit leaders Noushad Thekkayil and Niyas Karapparambu staged a day-long hunger strike here on Monday in support of the demands of differently-abled children.

“The State government has not paid differently-abled schoolchildren their scholarships. On the other hand, the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan has backed out from distributing study aides to all the children. The authorities are not concerned because these children are unable to voice their problems,” Shahul Madavoor, State Secretary of BRCS, said on the sidelines of the hunger strike.

A major demand raised by BRCS is that the State government should open rescue centres for differently-abled children who are being abandoned by their parents. “Kerala is supposedly a differently-abled friendly State. But our government offices and tourist centres are still inaccessible to differently-abled people,” he said.
