A rebellion broke out Monday in his Karnataka Prajnavanthara Janata Paksha (KPJP) over the way the party is run ahead of the election. This has put a question mark on Upendra's political future and the actor is expected to decide whether he will stay in KPJP after meeting the party leaders on Tuesday.
Upendra heads the KPJP, a party that was founded by one Mahesh Gowda during the 2015 BBMP election. The party leaders, including Gowda, attacked Upendra, calling him "a dictator" because he was not taking them into confidence on the selection of candidates for the polls.
"Our concept was clear: there'll be no leaders or servants, but only workers. The interview process (for candidates) was under way when others in the party started issuing letters of appointment as office-bearers to random people. This created confusion among candidates to whom I'm answerable," Upendra told reporters. "I flagged this. I asked them to give me the signing authority so that we can make appointments collectively. They refused and started branding me as a dictator," he charged. When asked what his next move will be, Upendra said: "God is there. Let's see."
On speculation that he could join the BJP, the actor simply said: "Oh, no!"
