Five youths held for stabbing three

Coimbatore: Police arrested five youths, including a college student, for attempting to murder three youths at Gandhipuram Junction on Sunday night. They were identified as Vivek Prabhu, Praveen, a college student, Kutti, Arun and Vijay Karthick, all from Rathinapuri. According to police, Gowtham from Rathinapuri, a college dropout, was with his friends Sukumar and Praveen on Sathy Road at Gandhipuram Junction on Sunday night. “They had enmity over celebrating a college function at Nava India. On seeing Gowtham and friends, the five-member gang fought with them. Suddenly, Vivek Prabhu assaulted Sukumar using a knife. Gowtham’s friend Praveen tried to stop Vivek Prabhu. But, Vivek Prabhu and his friends stabbed Praveen. Later, they stabbed Gowtham too, who sustained injuries on his abdomen,” a police officer said. TNN
