AHMEDABAD: Probationer PSI Paresh Chavda, who allegedly extorted Rs 60,000 from a couple found in possession of four liquor bottles, has been suspended. The couple was returning from the airport after a honeymoon trip to Dubai when they were intercepted by three police constables and PSI Chavda at Krishnanagar on the night of February 24.

The couple claimed in the FIR that they bought the liquor bottles from a duty free shop at Dubai airport and they had also shown the bills for the same. “Though PSI Chavda and the three constables threatened the businessman of slapping a case under the prohibition act and extorted the money for letting him off,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector -2 Ashok Yadav.

Yadav added that during the probe they found some strong evidences against the PSI and the three constables and hence the PSI was suspended so that he cannot influence the probe.

Yadav further added that they are still investigating the case and are piecing together the evidences they have got till now.

According to complaint lodged by Dharmendra Dhokiya, who owns a plastic factory in Naroda, while coming back from Dubai trip with his newly-wed wife and another friend and his wife on the night of February 24, they were stopped by policemen who came in a silver colour SUV at the gate of his apartment in Krishnanagar and took them to Thakkarnagar police chowky and extorted money from them.
