The Gujarat High Court today issued notice to Congress MLA from Danilimda constituency Shailesh Parmar on an election plea of an Aam Aadmi Party candidate, seeking that his election be quashed and set aside. Justice S G Shah also issued notices to the chief electoral officer and election officer of Danilimda constituency returnable on March 26. Petitioner Jayantibhai Mevada had filed a nomination form as an AAP candidate from Danilimda constituency for the 2017 Assembly polls and he contended that Parmar, who went on to win the election, had raised objection to his form on the ground that signature of one of his ten proposers was forged. He contended that the proposer, whose signature was questioned, was personally present with him at the time of filing of nomination form. Mevada further argued that he was not given a day's time which was sought by him to present his reply to the objection. Without considering his "detailed reply to false and frivolous objections", his nomination form was rejected by the election officer, he said in the petition. Mevada had moved a special civil application in the high court against this which was disposed of, after which he moved another petition as election petition under section 80 and 80(1) of the Representation of People Act. He pleaded that the decision by the returning officer be held as wrong and Parmar's election be quashed and set aside.
