St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester will miss the rest of the season with a left hip injury, the team announced Monday.

The club also disclosed that forward Scottie Upshall will miss at least four weeks with a knee injury.

Bouwmeester, 34, will be sidelined at least four to six months, according to Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. The injury will require surgery.

Bouwmeester, who has two goals and five assists in 35 games this season, has been bothered by the hip for nearly three months.

"Jay's been dealing with this since early December -- I think after the Buffalo game (on Dec. 10)," Armstrong told reporters. "The course of action at that time was either get the surgery at that point or get an injection and play through it. Jay wanted to get the injection and play through it."

Bouwmeester aggravated the injury during Saturday's loss to the Dallas Stars, and team doctors determined that surgery was the only option.

Upshall also was injured against Dallas. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

The 34-year-old Upshall has 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 61 games this season.
