IPL 2018: Inaugural ceremony shifted to April 7

Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament is all set to get start from 7 th April 2018. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday that the opening ceremony date of the 11th edition of IPL has been changed and it will be now held on April 7 before the match.

Prior, the inaugural ceremony was slated to be held on April 6. The first match will be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL Franchise.

As per BCCI officials, the date of opening ceremony has been shifted after the consent of Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators’ (CoA) order.

The reports revealed that the opening ceremony will be now held at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The financial plan for opening ceremony has also been slashed by Rs 20 crore.

A BCCI official wrote, “Prior the opening ceremony was slated for April 6 at the Cricket Club of India. Now CoA has taken decision that it will take place on April 7 at Wankhede ahead of 2018 IPL opener.”

The official affirmed, “Earlier the budget for the opening ceremony was Rs 50 crore (approved by the IPL governing council), now it has been reduced to Rs 30 crore. This call, too, has been taken by the CoA.”
